It's been scorching in yyc lately and with the humidex it feels even hotter (about 40 degrees Celsius or almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit) and if you ask me it's a little too hot for my liking! The UV index is strongest between 11am and 4pm and that's the time to seek shade, cover up, wear a hat, sunglasses and definitely sunscreen. The UV index is an international standard measurement of the strength of the ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun at a certain place at a certain date/time. The higher the UV radiation from the sun, the more excessive exposure conditions can be: sunburns, eye damage, premature aging, skin cancer etc. I cannot stress the importance of sunscreens and sunblocks.
My recommendation is to invest in sun protection that is either a physical block or a high sunscreen. For daily use, anywhere between a 20-50 SPF is sufficient enough. Don't buy into the trends that sell 100 spf, they don't do that much more for the skin and are most times filled with many chemicals that can make your skin have an adverse reaction such as acne, congestion, rashing etc. My all-time favourite is Skin Tx's Physical Face block. If you like extra botanicals in your sun protection, try Yonka's SPF 20 spray. It's light weight and doesn't leave you with a white sheen after application. Stay cool!
