In your late 20's/30's and still breaking out? Don't worry, it happens to the best of us. High sugar foods, lack of water intake, our monthly visitor, stress, genetics, all of these things can cause those nasty pustules, white heads and black heads to occur. For the most part, this superficial acne can be handled topically. I recommend a series of peels to increase the cell renewal in your skin, allowing the over-production of sebum to slow and the dead skin cells to shed evenly. Regular peels reduce plugged pores.
I know what you're thinking... am I going to look like
Samantha in that Sex & the City episode after a peel? Truth is, it
depends on the severity of the peel. There are some strong 'weekend' peels I
like to call them. (Get them done on Friday, you're better by Tuesday).
Because of Soma's downtown location, the peels that we carry
don't leave the skin red for days. In fact, you can have them over lunch hour
and go back to work! (Just be sure to have some SPF before you leave). The best
way to never break out is to find that sweet spot in terms of the frequency of
peels. I'm normally acneic, so I need a professional peel every 3-4 weeks, and
I use a soft peel (yonka gommage) at home. You'll love the Glow Essentalis at
Soma, it's a quick 20 minute mini-facial that includes a chemical peel--it's
the closest to a magical cure for adult acne. You'll fall in love with your
skin!
